Bass Amps?

I play drums, but my brother plays bass, and we're looking into getting a new amp, and with how expensive they can get, we want to research before we commit anything, and frankly, we have no idea where to start looking. What are come good bass amp companies, and do vacuum tubes play as much a part in bass amps as much as in normal amps? So many questions...

  1. I saw one for about £60 and i don't think they cost as much as guitar ones. I don't play bass so i'm not an expert.
  2. well first thing is first, The mush touted Ampeg is indeed a good brand however it is also very pricey, Ashdown I have heard from many people is also a very good bass amp manufacturer (I personally have never used one) And they are a bit more affordable However I had a great first amp, It was just a 60 watt bheringer amp but it could really crank I would recomend bheringer for a starting amp it was really nice, however 60 watts is a little low, Im trying to get a new bigger amp right now but the bheringer served its duty for a long time, I was heard easily over a drummer and two guitarists, each with 200 watt cabs. Hope this helped dude. ( I would also recomend doing research at ure local music shop or by reading customer reviews online at place like musicians friend or music 123)
  3. There is a lot out there. So I would definitely do some research and shop around. With that said I would start by looking at Ampeg OR Gallien-Krueger OR Behringer. Those are probably your best bets, but there are other good amps out there. I play an Ampeg BA-115 and it works great for all styles but it is fairly heavy and bulky.
