1. He likely uses an effect to get the crunch.Try and search the internet for Exodus equipment list. Or Jack Gibson Equipment list. This may tell you exactly what he uses. I would think he may use a distortion or overdrive. I would make sure you get an amp with at least a real tube preamp. I use a Hartke HA3500 350watt @4ohm. It is an nice sounding amp, and sounds especially good with my 5 string. There are a bunch of good amps out there. Gallien Kreuger, David Eden, Ampeg, SWR are all good ones as well. The amp you choose will reflect your taste. Since everyone has these different tastes, I would recommend you go to a music store and try some out to see what YOU like. Remember too that if you were to play live, your amp is basically just a monitor for you. You will line out you amp to the FOH PA system. Rest assured the sound out front will be what the sound guy makes it.
