Whats the difference between an electric-acoustic guitar and an acoustic guitar?

Whats the difference between an electric-acoustic guitar and an acoustic guitar? an acoustic guitar and an elec-acoustic guitar both have a socket where you can plug in an amplifier....

1. an acoustic electric u can amplify, and an acoustic u cant u need to use a microphone
2. nooo.... an acoustic guitar cannot be plugged into an amplifier, while an elec-acoustic can.
3. well i have an acoustic guitar that has no such socket in it..... it's only the electric acoustic guitars that have the socket to plug it into an amplifier.....which is what makes it electric...
4. An electric acoustic guitar is an acoustic guitar with electric "pickups" below the strings. A pickup converts the vibration of the string into an electrical signal. This signal is carried through wires to the socket in which you plug in your amplifier.
5. Only EA's have the plug in for cables. Regular acoustics are for places without power sources for an amp (but AE are also used for this). Basically what I'm trying to say is that an AE is the best of both worlds so to speak. Gah I hate that phrase. Don't quote me on that. Thanks.
